Substation Protection Design
Many years of protection design experience to determine the most appropriate protection schemes for substation. Relay requirements determined from substation single line diagram or customer specification of protection requirements. The goal is to provide the most appropriate protection for the substation to permit the specified operating reliability and technical requirements i.e National Grid Connection Code and Australian Standards where applicable. All necessary calculations are undertaken to determine protection sensitivity, reliability and stability. Indicative protection relay settings are determined to guarantee that the protection relay setting ranges are adequate and there are no surprises, come time of commissioning. The designs guarantee that no blind spots are left and that every type of fault can be detected by two protection relays.
Circuit breaker failure and substation battery failure are considered and customer is consulted as to the level of backup required for installation.
Electre Consulting has designed protection schemes for substations ranging in voltage from 330kV to 11kV and rating of 1200 MVA to 100 KVA. The same extreme care is exercised in all cases.
